We are pleased to announce that the forty-one students currently enrolled in the Colorado Springs Distance Education MSW Program will be graduating in December 2008. A new cohort will begin this successful three year part-time program in January 2009.

Our distance education masters program is built on the same curriculum and has the same faculty as is used in the CSU Fort Collins campus based MSW program. The CSU MSW degree is focused on advanced generalist social work practice in the context of community. This perspective recognizes that practice is informed by socio-behavioral, and ecosystems knowledge based on ideologies that include democracy, humanism, and empowerment. The degree prepares students for direct and indirect interventions that are client-centered, problem-focused, and research-based.

The CSU Distance MSW Program is designed for students who are employed and seeking a part-time Council on Social Work Education accredited MSW program. Classes are held one weekend a month with 75-80 percent of course content provided in a classroom context. The remaining 20-25 percent of course material is provided through distance education methods. During the second and third year of the program, students will participate in two field experiences. The first placement consists of 268 hours in the field agency and the second 720 hours. These field experiences are critical to the integration of material covered in the monthly class session, making this program, a strong and vibrant learning experience. The CSU distance MSW program works well for students who are employed part-time or employed full-time with some flexibility in work schedules to accommodate field experience hours.
